JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Central Design Engineering provides high quality, cost effective, on schedule design services for the southern Nuclear Fleet. Design Projects, which resides in the Central Design Engineering Department, is responsible for providing requested modification packages to the Nuclear Fleet. Modification design control is maintained through effective configuration management of design output documents (e.g., specifications, calculations, drawings, test requirements and procedures).
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare cost-effective modifications as assigned to improve plant performance and reliability.
Prepare engineering products consistent with defined standards, procedures and regulatory guidelines to ensure the sites design and licensing basis is maintained
Assist in the solutions to issues that impact safe, reliable operations and propose process changes that improve overall efficiency.
Provide technical support to operations, maintenance, engineering, and other fleet organizations.
Manage engineering work assignments to ensure the design service provided is meeting department and organizational needs.
Communicate to all levels of the organization, verbally and in writing, technical information, concepts, and ideas throughout the engineering product development.
Attend training and maintain qualifications necessary to perform required group function.
Demonstrates expertise in own specific engineering discipline and how that discipline relates to utility operations. Knowledgeable in the various regulations and codes which apply to their specific discipline
. Requires knowledge of utility policies, practices, as well as industry wide policies and practices. Solid understanding of related disciplines and all plant departments and their interaction with assigned work.
Able to view tasks logically, break problem down in to essential requirements, and generate a solution applying accepted standards. Recommends the best course of action to meet the objectives.
Plans longer term projects and develops schedules. Meets deadlines set by Engineering Leadership.
Influence others to combine resources such that deadline can be met. Expected to provide guidance and coaching to entry level engineers.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education required of the position
B.S. Degree in Engineering or other closely related scientific discipline / physical science generally associated with power plant operations, or equivalent work experience (equivalent experience is defined as demonstrated success at the Engineer / Technical Specialist level.)
Desired: BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
Minimum experience required of the position
Required:
Engineer III :4+ years experience in nuclear power design, operations or equivalent.
Trained and qualified on nuclear industry Standard Design Process
Desired:
Electrical I&C Nuclear Design Engineering Experience Highly Preferred
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position
Technical understanding of nuclear generation principles and operations. Outstanding communication and conflict management skills. Proficiency with current computer business applications.
